Stone facade – how to achieve a natural effect with decorative tiles

Thanks to advanced painting techniques and a careful production process, Incana tiles perfectly imitate different types of stone and rock, featuring a large selection of patterns and colours offering numerous arrangement possibilities.

Using decorative tiles, you can decorate not only an entire wall (or a part of it, e.g. by the front door), but also the fence, the chimney, the plinth, or the terrace. However, it is important to choose a product that is suitable for outdoor applications, i.e. one that is frost- and water-resistant.

How to choose stone façade tiles?

First of all, you should keep in mind that gypsum tiles are not suitable for a building facade and may lose their properties if exposed to excessive moisture, water and extreme temperatures. Therefore, you should use concrete tiles for this purpose. These products are characterized by great durability, thanks to which they maintain their elegant appearance for much longer than gypsum tiles. When choosing tiles, their thickness is also important, which translates primarily into the safety of their use, but also the aesthetics of the decoration. Concrete tiles require a sufficiently strong and stable base (especially if they are to cover a large area). In order to give customers the widest possible range of products, Incana manufactures tiles in various thicknesses (up to 3.5 cm), including the very thin SLIM range (only 1.5 cm thick), suitable for less durable surfaces where the traditional products could prove too heavy.

Thinner version of a decorative facade stone

If the tiles are to cover a surface that is not as stable as a brick wall or simply if the elements that are too thick would not look well, it is worth to opt for the following ranges:

  • Arcada (featuring a rough, heterogeneous structure),
  • Arena (universal decorative stone with a 3D effect when properly illuminated),
  • Calibra (a distinctive, original texture),
  • Castor (it gives the effect of a wall made of elements of different sizes, resembling granite structures),
  • Corona (distinguished by a texture resembling adjacent rocks joined together),
  • Dakota (a rough, heterogeneous texture, with a somewhat southern touch),
  • Etna (a characteristic shade of coffee, graphite and an interesting texture in which the rough elements harmonise with the smooth ones).

On walls other than masonry ones (e.g. wood or steel), a good idea is to use a small-mesh metal net before installing the decorative tiles. Ideally, it should be a galvanized wire net with a diameter of 1 mm and a mesh size of 5×5 mm. It is a universal solution, used also in case of old walls which are difficult to clean properly (a well-prepared surface is a prerequisite for safe and durable tile installation).

Stone façade – wide range of tile patterns and colours

Inspired by the colour and texture of stone and rock, Incana decorative tiles imitate, among other things, lime and volcanic surfaces and the characteristic structure of layered rocks. Thanks to the DRY Technology painting method, Incana offers natural looking tiles in different colours. The examples of the ranges featuring darker colours include: – Columbia (intense bronze, which is clearly associated with nature and the earth), – Hudson (a range consisting of quite large elements with a rough and heterogeneous texture that gives them an interesting, raw character), – Montana (solid and massive at first glance, dark brown with slight discoloration).

If you are looking for tiles inspired by stone or rock in a lighter colour scheme, you can choose from the following ranges:

– Burgio (the combined elements give the effect of a wild wall, arranged from chipped rock, the tiles are available in a lighter version of Cappuccino and a darker one – Volcano), – Antero (subdued colours, they imitate a natural surface marked by erosion and the passage of time), – Cortina (a rough, heterogeneous texture, composed of smaller and larger rectangles and squares arranged asymmetrically). Some ranges come in several colour versions. For example: – Basalto (gives the effect of a wild wall, arranged from chipped rock; the product is available in five colour versions Frost, Volcano, Sabbia, Copper, Natural), – Carini (Concrete stone available in Graphite, Caldo, Grey, Sahara) – Arbol (tiles of various thicknesses, featuring convex and concave spots, which gives the impression of intricately arranged blocks; available in two colour versions: Grunde and Rame), – Davos (Sandstone-inspired tile, available in the following versions: Copper, Tierra, Volcano,) – España (modelled after limestone rocks, available in Volcano, Claro, Cappuccino, and Cinnamon versions).
